Note different types of sentences:

１、X は Some Loc に　あります

Something is Located in some place

２、います、です　There are...and there is...

３、とてもい-Adj 大学　です　It's a very ___university

４、あまり　大きく　ありません　Not very large

５、あります　There are...

６、＿＿も　あります　There is also

７、とても　ゆうめい　です　It is very famous

８、＿＿＿が　あります　There are

９、＿＿も　あります　There is also

１０、きます　(Motion Verb, "come")

 

Dialogue Review: Key Sentences

 

１、このへんに　ぎんこう が　ありますか. = "Is there..."

 

２、あそこ に　たかい　ビル　が　ありますね. =

Over there, there is a tall building, right?　

 

３、あれ です　よ. =

That's it! (It's that thing over there!)　

 

４、ぎんこうは　どこに　ありますか. =

As for the bank, where is it?　

 

５、あ、ぎんこうは　それですよ.

Oh, the bank is that thing/that one　

 

６、ATM は どこ　ですか. = Where is the ATM?

(Same pattern as #4 but どこ ですか replaces どこに　ありますか

７、そこに　ございます. = It is there.

(ございます replaces あります for politeness)

 

 

Grammar I: KO SO AA DO Words

これ　　それ　　あれ　　どれ？

This thing, That thing, That thing over there, Which thing?　

これは　なんですか　

それは　なんですか　

あれ　は　なんですか

 

これは　わたしの　えんぴつ　です　

それは　＿＿＿＿さん　の　えんぴつ　です　

あれは　わたしの　オレンジ　です　

Question Word: どれ = Which one?

 

X-さん の コンピュータ は　どれ　ですか？

Which one is X-san's computer?

 

So これは　means this or this thing;

Therefore, we cannot use it with People

 

これ　　それ　　あれ　　どれ

Are all Pronouns so they contain within them the notion of "thing" or Object; so we do not add anything to them.

 

We also have words indicating PLACE:

ここ 　そこ 　　あそこ　

This place, That place, That place over there

Ques Word:

どこ？

Which place? or Where?
